2,200 sq ft
Plot Size:
Ground-floor corner unit
Completed Year:
2024
Duration:
5 months
Materials:
Handmade clay tiles, reclaimed timber, living green wall, brass
Project Brief:
A young founder in Pune wanted a café that felt like a calm garden in the middle of a busy street. She asked for around 48 seats, an open kitchen, and a space that worked as well for a solo laptop session as for a group of friends.
Challenge:
The unit is a ground-floor corner space with little natural light and a low ceiling. It could easily have felt dark and cramped.
Design Approach:
Bring the garden in. A living green wall runs along the longest side of the café, and hanging planters fill the space above the tables. In total, around 300 plants soften the space and clean the air.
Outcome:
The café opened on schedule in five months and is busy from morning to closing. Its green wall has become a landmark in the neighbourhood.
